Big Bend Community College’s Industrial Systems Technology program has been training students to enter the industrial electrical and industrial maintenance career fields for more than 20 years. The complex controls and machinery in today’s industries require multifaceted, trained technicians. Modern industrial plants require skilled technicians who maintain, calibrate, repair, and troubleshoot equipment. The mission of the IST program is to prepare students for entry into the fields of industrial electricity and industrial maintenance, along with providing a thorough understanding of electrical safety rules, and safe work practices. The demand for Industrial electricians and/or mechanics is at an all-time high. Graduates of BBCC’s IST program have gone on to management positions, have joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBEW, and have found full-time, gainful employment with a variety of local industries, utilities and construction.
